  • Cultivate! Children's Program

We want the kids to come learn with us!

Cultivate! Children's Program is a grant-funded summer program for children grade 1-6. The focus of the program is to enrich the children of our community by developing an understanding of nutrition and where our food comes from and by nurturing a passion for incorporating healthy habits into our daily lives. Activities include making food dishes using local produce as well as learning about farming, composting, and the environmental impact on our food.

For the 2021 season we are offering the program for 12 weeks (June 10-Aug 12), from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.  We are signing up 50 children. Class sizes are limited to 25. This is now a first-come first-serve opportunity, and we will not be taking reservations. We had such an overwhelming interest in the program during the 2017 year, we decided to open the opportunity up to more participants throughout the season.

During each Cultivate class, participants will learn about a topic and receive a worksheet that accompanies that topic. Prior to the end of the class, each participant will have an opportunity to fill out a survey about their experience in the Cultivate program. Additionally, every child who attends the class will be entered into a raffle to win either a Cultivate t-shirt or a Cultivate bag. By completing the survey, a participant can have an extra raffle entry. At the end of each class we'll draw the raffle winner for the day, and each child will also be given free market money/tokens which can be spent on fresh fruits or vegetables simply for participating in the program for the day. Children who don't win the raffle will have a chance to purchase a t-shirt or bag at the information booth, or they can attend the next Cultivate class for yet another chance to win.

Please note that children who are ten years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult during the Cultivate classes.
